The Vela draga educational trail

Vranjska Draga Staza

On the slopes of the western spurs of Učka lies Vela Draga, a canyon valley where the processes of dissolution, wear, and erosion of rocks have created a marvelous place amidst the Istrian karst. An educational trail leads to Vela Draga, starting from a marked parking area reached after traveling a few hundred meters upon descending from the Učka tunnel towards Labin. Along the entire length of the trail, educational boards are placed presenting this monument of exceptional geomorphological value. Vela Draga is located within the Učka Nature Park, and organized group programs for different ages and visitor profiles are also offered.

Vranjska Draga Trail

The educational trail of Vela Draga, spanning 2.2 km, runs along the edge of the namesake canyon, divided into two stages, with interpretative boards placed along its entire length. It starts at the Zrinščak tunnel and ends at the Boljunsko field, and its uniqueness is characterized by sharp rocks with towers ranging between 50 and 90 meters in height, some of which were destroyed during the construction of the Učka tunnel. The highest part of the canyon is at 600 meters above sea level, while the lowest is precisely at the Boljunsko field, at an altitude of 153 meters. The canyon is covered with lush vegetation, from willow and poplar to beech and yew, while some parts also have a primeval forest character.
